The Bix Mix Boys

The talented Scott Franchuk of Riverdale Recorders in Edmonton engineered the CD. Our good friend Eric Uglum was our producer. Eric played with Lost Highway for many years and can now be seen playing with Chris Stuart and Backcountry as well as his two sons Christian and Austin.

The Bix Mix Boys bring a sound that they hope is unique to the bluegrass community, a Canadian bluegrass sound. Each show brings a broad range of music as each member brings his own personal touch to the band, proving that the final product is more than the individual sum of its parts. Bluegrass standards mix with blues songs mix with original tunes. No matter what the Bix Mix Boys play, you can hear the roots of traditional roots music holding strong.

The Bix Mix Boys started from a group of friends who have gotten to know one another through their local bluegrass music community in and around Edmonton, Alberta. Jim Storey on upright bass and Darcy Whiteside on banjo became well aquainted while playing with the bluegrass band Maple Creek. Guitar player Logan Sarchfield is the newcomer to the Edmonton bluegrass scene, and arrived in 2005 from Millbrook, New Brunswick; however, he is not new to bluegrass music. Upon arrival in Edmonton, Logan quickly sought out fellow bluegrass players. After Matt Hotte left the Bix Mix Boys, Jim recommended Terry Nadasdi, an excellent mandolin and guitar player from the Riverdale Bluegrass Band. After a few jam sessions, it was clear Terry was the perfect fit. Armed with original tunes from both Darcy and Terry, The Bix Mix Boys started woodshedding for their debut CD.

You can hear a devotion to the music when you hear the Bix Mix Boys, but you can also hear their main goal is to play music they love with a good group of friends. Their only wish is for you to enjoy listening to their music as much as they enjoy playing.
